Privacy Policy

PocketWise collects the following information to provide its expense tracking and budgeting features:

• Account information: Email address and password (securely hashed) when you create an account for cloud sync.
• Financial data you enter: Paycheck amounts and schedules, bill names/amounts/due dates, debt balances and APRs, savings goals, and a starting checking account balance you provide.
• Bank statement files: When you use the bank statement import feature, the file content is sent to our secure backend for processing and is not stored permanently.
• Google Calendar data: When you enable calendar sync, we access your Google Calendar to create bill reminder events, with your permission.
• Usage data: Anonymous analytics events (e.g., feature usage) to improve the app.
• Device data: Device type, operating system, and app version for compatibility and support.

We use your data to:

• Display your projected checking account balance and budget across pay periods.
• Optimize bill distribution across paychecks.
• Simulate debt payoff strategies and loan calculations.
• Sync bill reminders to your Google Calendar (when enabled).
• Send due-bill email notifications (when enabled).
• Process subscription payments via Stripe for PocketWise Premium.
• Improve app features and fix bugs.

We never sell your data to third parties.

Your data is protected through multiple layers:

• Local-only mode: You can use PocketWise without an account. All data stays in your browser's local storage and never leaves your device.
• Cloud sync: When you enable cloud sync, your data is stored securely on our servers with row-level security — each user can only access their own records.
• Encryption: All data in transit is encrypted via HTTPS/TLS. Passwords are hashed using industry-standard algorithms.
• Bank statement files: Uploaded files are processed server-side using short-lived signed URLs and are not permanently stored or shared.
• Payment data: Subscription payments are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your full card number — Stripe handles all payment security (PCI DSS compliant).

PocketWise integrates with the following third-party services, each with their own privacy policies:

• Stripe: Processes subscription payments. See stripe.com/privacy.
• Google Calendar API: Syncs bill reminders to your calendar. See policies.google.com/privacy.
• Google AdSense / AdMob: Serves ads in the free version. See policies.google.com/privacy.
• OpenAI / AI providers: Power the AI debt coach and bank statement analysis features. See openai.com/privacy.

We do not share your personal financial data with these providers beyond what is necessary to provide the feature you requested.

• Local-only mode: Use PocketWise without an account — no data leaves your device.
• Account deletion: You can delete your account and all associated data from the Account page at any time.
• Calendar sync: You can disconnect Google Calendar sync at any time from the Account page.
• Notifications: You can enable or disable due-bill email notifications in your settings.
• Ad-free experience: Subscribing to PocketWise Premium removes all ads.
• Data export: You can export your bills and financial data from the Reports page.

We retain your data as follows:

• Active accounts: Your data is retained as long as your account is active.
• Deleted accounts: When you delete your account, all your financial data is permanently removed within 30 days.
• Local-only mode: Data remains in your browser until you clear your browser data or uninstall the app.
• Bank statement files: Processed and discarded — not stored beyond the analysis session.

PocketWise is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will promptly delete it.

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes within the app and update the "last updated" date above. Continued use of PocketWise after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
